If you caught Episode 2 of the “Ask the Experts” podcast, you already know — South Florida’s got a new go-to guy for estate planning, and his name is Andrew Rosenberg. Andrew, founder of the Rosenberg Law Firm, joined host Steve-O for another eye-opening conversation about the real risks families face when they don’t plan ahead — and why estate planning is about so much more than just dying.

Missed it? Don’t worry — we’ve got the highlights right here, along with some key takeaways that might just save your family time, stress, and a lot of money down the road.

“Why Do I Even Need Estate Planning?”

Great question — and one that came in live during the show. Andrew’s answer? Simple:

“Because it’s the right thing to do for your family.”

Estate planning isn’t just for millionaires or the elderly. It’s for anyone who wants to:

  • Stay in control of their assets,

  • Avoid the cost and delay of probate,

  • Protect loved ones from court battles,

  • And make sure decisions are made by people they trust — not the courts.

And as Andy put it on the podcast, “Most of the time, we don’t just die. We become disabled or incapacitated first.” That’s where proper planning really proves its worth. Without documents like a durable power of attorney or healthcare surrogate, your family could end up in guardianship court, spending thousands just to make routine decisions.

A Call That Came Too Late

One of the most powerful moments of the show was when Andrew shared a true story about his former landscaper. The man called Andrew out of the blue saying, “I think it’s time I get my estate plan in order.” Andy called him back that evening — no answer. Called again the next day — no response. A few days later, he learned the man had passed away from a sudden heart attack, just hours after making that first call.

Let that sink in.

He knew he needed to plan. He took the first step. And then life had other plans.

This is why Andrew is so passionate about proactive planning. Because once it’s too late… it’s just too late.

Probate Is NOT a Free Ride

Many people assume a will keeps them out of court. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

Andy explained how Florida’s probate system works — and how expensive it can be. If your house is worth $1 million and it’s in your name alone, probate fees could hit $30,000 or more, just in legal fees. And that’s before the court process even starts.

Whether you have a will or not, if your assets aren’t properly titled or placed in a trust, your family could face months (or years) of court headaches.

What About Elder Law?

The show also touched on elder law — the lesser-known cousin of estate planning. Elder law is all about protecting your assets from being wiped out by long-term care costs. If you don’t have long-term care insurance, guess who pays for the nursing home? You do. Until you’re broke enough to qualify for Medicaid.

But with the right planning, Andrew can help you legally and ethically protect your home and savings from being drained — so there’s something left for your family.

Workshops with Wine? Yes, Please.

Want to learn more in person? Andrew hosts estate planning workshops every couple of weeks in Plantation, Coral Springs, and Pembroke Pines. They’re held at Total Wine (yes, there’s wine and snacks), and they’re designed to be fun, open, and totally approachable.

The next one is happening February 26 at 5:30 PM in Plantation — but you have to RSVP. Call 954-755-7803 to save your seat.

Final Thoughts

There’s a reason people are raving about Andy’s podcast appearances — he keeps it real. No fear tactics. No fluff. Just practical advice, told with a little humor and a lot of heart. His message?

Don’t wait until you’re in crisis mode to get your estate plan in order.

Whether it’s a sudden illness, a tragic accident, or just the slow creep of aging — planning before something happens is the best gift you can give to your family.
